About Our Founders

Paul R. Capps

Paul R. Capps, the founder of the firm, was born in Donnellson, Tennessee, on September 27, 1922. The grandson of the late Gov. A. H. Roberts, Mr. Capps graduated from Cumberland University School of Law in 1947 and practiced law for 55 years before his death in 2003. Personal counsel for U.S. Sen. Herbert S. Walters, he represented many corporations and organizations during his career in litigating and assisting in the formation of new industry as Morristown grew from town to city. Mr. Capps served in both World War II and the Korean conflict and returned to Morristown to resume his practice after his honorable discharge. He was a family man devoted to his church, First United Methodist Church in Morristown; to his spouse, Marie Ready Capps; and to his four children, Diane C. Noe, Claudia C. Bonnyman, Paul C. Kyser and Christopher P. Capps.

Frank P. Cantwell Jr.

Frank P. (“Rusty”) Cantwell Jr., born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on January 29, 1946, joined this law firm in 1974 when he was admitted to the Tennessee Bar. In 1976, he was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. Rusty received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University in 1968 and graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1973. Rusty served in the U. S. Army from 1968 until 1971 at which time he was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant in military intelligence. Rusty retired from the practice of law in 2012, but he often comes by to visit when not volunteering for the Daily Bread.
